History The Mercedes Benz 230SL model was first introduced in 1963. Its styling made it a hallmark among grand touring cars and is considered by many sports car purists to be the best of the post- 300SL series. The 230 engine was a direct development from the 220SE fuel injected model and offered a considerable boost in horsepower over the 190SL. The suspension design gives a very firm and sporty feel on the road. This was one of the last Mercedes Benz to use a rear wing axle.
