2010 JCNA Annual General Meeting

March 26th - 27th - Indianapolis, IN

This year’s AGM was hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station. At this year’s AGM, the Board Meeting was normal business conducted. Present was Dan Algarin, the newly appointed Jaguar Cars representative. The next day the AGM meeting went well with most clubs present. A social event was held at the Stutz museum, which showcased an array of fine classic vehicles. A tour of the museum was accompanied by dinner. Jaguars from the museum were on display in front of the hotel for all to enjoy. Indianapolis is a great host city and a lot of fun to have an event such as this. The next board meeting is scheduled for Atlanta.
Restorer’s guides and archived information from many of the classic model Jaguars will be available for sale on the JCNA website. There is a committee that is handling the reproduction and sales of these materials, which are the best authentic information for these Jaguars. We recommend these materials to anyone wanting detailed and accurate information on originality for restorations. A great reference!

2010 Jaguar Club Mexico Gran Concourso Internacional de Elegancia

April 17 - 18, 2010

The Club Jaguar Mexico hosted its annual Gran Concourso Internacional de Elegancia in Mexico City in their usual regal fashion, although there was nothing usual about the occasion. This played up to both the 30th anniversary of Club Jaguar Mexico as well as the first Concours Judges Training Meeting in which Presidents representing various marquis attended in efforts to regulate Concours judging standards across the various marquis.

The Concours was located about 40 minutes outside Mexico City at Las Caballerizas in Dos Rios, Huixquilucan. Various affiliates of JCNA were in attendance of the event, stood as judges for the Concours and assisted in the Concours Judges Training Meeting. These familiar enthusiasts included Tom Krefetz (Southwest Director for JCNA, member of SDJC), Pete Rieth (member of SDJC), Harvey Williamson (member of SDJC), Brian Blackwell (South Central Director for JCNA, member of San Antonio Jaguar Club) and his wife Paula Blackwell (member of San Antonio Jaguar Club).
The Concourse itself was a huge success and a great celebration and gathering of Classic Car enthusiasts from around the globe. Club Jaguar Mexico has become well known for hosting elaborate Concourse that include participation from other clubs and various large sponsors. It has easily become the largest of the Concourse held in Mexico, spanning two days. The Club Jaguar Mexico Concourse makes charitable donations to various organizations. This year they donated to the Red Cross.
Pictured below are the following members of Club Jaguar Mexico at the Concours: Back Row- Left to Right: Eduardo Bonilla, Brian Blackwell, Jeff Carlson, Guillermo Encinas, Juan Careterro, Mario Medina, Harvey Williamson, Alejandro J. Isoard Viesca, Tom Krefetz. Front Row- Left to Right: Alejandro Mena, David Shepherd, Miguel Angel Davila (Winner of the Best of Show with his XK-120 DHC 1953), Julio Cesar Cuenca, Pete Rieth, Alberto Duran, Arturo Solano.

Western States Meet Hosted by
Jaguar Owners Club

Santa Maria, California

April 26-30, 2010

The Western States Meet was held in Santa Maria, April 26-30, 2010, hosted by the Los Angeles Jaguar Owners Club. This semi-annual meet was open to all JCNA members and is hosted by a new Southwest or Northwest Jaguar club each time. A JCNA-sanctioned Concours at the city’s Waller Park was held on Tuesday the 27th, with the awards dinner that evening. On Wednesday the 28th, there was a rally or tour north to Hearst Castle, of which Classic Showcase was a sponsor. After lunch, tours of the famous Hearst Castle were enjoyed. That Thursday morning was a slalom at the Santa Maria Fairgrounds near the Santa Maria Inn, which played our host hotel for the week.  That evening was a very special Old-Hollywood style dinner at the Santa Maria Inn. Many attendees dressed in the styling of their favorite classic film star and good times were had by all.

Bart Brady Asked:

  • What is considered a classic Jaguar?

    Fresno, CA

Tom Says:

All Jaguar models over 30 years of age.

Louis Elliot Asks :
  • I live in England and I would like to purchase a Porsche from you to restore myself. Why should I buy a US car (more specifically California car), and how do I get it to England?

London, England

Tom Says:

Cars from California and surrounding areas of the Western United States have much less issues with rust . At Classic Showcase, we select only the best candidates for restoration to offer and we are selective of the cars that we purchase. In the 30 years we have been in business we have worked with the most reputable and dependable transporters for every type of shipping need. We are experienced in shipping vehicles across the globe and will be happy to help gather shipping quotes and arrange the proper shipping and export of your car safely to you.

Ron Andrew Asks:
  • I’m thinking of restoring my classic car. Should I consider restoring my car to be stock or modernizing it?

Oceanside, California

Tom Says:

Both options have their advantages and disadvantages. It depends on your personal preference and what you would like to accomplish as the end result. Restoration is a bigger challenge, but a fully restored vintage car can have a higher value with authenticity and correctness. These cars are also competitive in Showing and collectors would be more interested in purchasing this type of vehicle to add to their collection. We are experienced and have ample resources of vendors and contacts to help us source correct and original parts to complete the restoration. Modernizing is another great option for you to consider. You can do performance upgrades, cosmetic upgrades, comfort upgrades and as well as modern technologies and advancements. Driving a classic car is not always comfortable, but driving a comfortable classic car is a lot of fun! Of course, upgrading and customizing your classic to your desired specifications is full of endless possibilities and can allow you to create that car of your dreams as personalized as your signature. Keep in mind, if there is resale of the car you might not get the same financial return as you would with a restored car.

Maintaining Your Classic for the Summer Season

Before starting your Summer journeys in your classic car, do a vehicle inspection and check-up before you put it on the highway. Make sure to check the following:

  • Look under the car on the ground to check for any fluids that may have leaked.
  • Check and change fluids as needed.
  • Check gasoline. If old, drain and replace.
  • Charge battery, check or replace as needed.
  • Check air pressure on all tires, don't forget the spare.
  • Check to make sure that bolts and all hardware and suspension points are tight.
  • Check radiator anti-freeze level and note the color of the fluid. It should be a bright green. If not, it may need flushing and changing.
  • Check engine performance for possible need of a tune up,
    carburetor and timing adjustment.
  • If there are any noises or low oil pressure when you start the car, be sure to consult your mechanic before driving it.
