2011 Challenge Championship
July 6th -9th - Columbus, OH
| 2011 Challenge Championship
The Jaguar Association of Central Ohio, along with our sister clubs in the region, is proud to be hosting the 2011 JCNA Challenge Championship July 6-9 and plans are underway to make this event one to remember. JACO holds its annual concours in conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show and Cruise-in, one of the biggest shows in the Mid-West, and this year is no exception. However this year we are expanding the show to four days for the Challenge Championship celebrating the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the E-ty pe. This show will allow Jaguar enthusiasts from around the country to meet with fellow club members as well as view 2000 plus classic and custom cars of all makes and models. Musical stage shows Friday and Saturday nights provide the perfect ending to the day's activities. The Dublin Crowne Plaza, right on the show grounds, is the host hotel for this event insuring easy access from the hotel to all the show activities. The Dublin Metro Center, site for Challenge Championship, is located on the northwest side of Columbus with easy access right off the I-270 outer belt. Close to shopping, restaurants, museums and the Columbus Zoo, recently voted the country's number 1 zoo, means activities abound for the whole family.
The events for the CC start on Wednesday with a slalom which will be held on the nearby Franklin County Fairgrounds to test the abilities of people and machines. A welcome reception at the host hotel is planned for Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning, a rally through the back country of central Ohio, including a couple of covered bridges, and ending up at Packard Museum in Dayton. Lunch and tour of the museum after the rally will be available. Participants may want to take in the nearby Air Force Museum as an alternative. We have to thank our good friends in the Jaguar Club of Greater Cincinnati for organizing the rally. Dinner at a Scottish-style Pub and Grill near the hotel and show site is planned. Friday calls for a seminar on the history and development of the E-type focusing on the earliest, external bonnet latch versions. Participants may want to spend some time prepping their cars while the Arthritis show gets going. Friday afternoonand evening can be spent enjoying the sights and sounds of the Cruise-in. The highlights of Saturday will be the Classic Auto Show and our own Concours d'Elegance. This is when all the hard work is put to the test before an expert group of judges. Following the Concours there will be a BBQ style dinner and awards ceremony before the Arthritis Foundation evening entertainment begins outside.
The Jaguar Association of Central Ohio was formed In the summer of 1973 several owners of Jaguars around the city of Columbus met informally to discuss the possibility of forming a club of people interested in the Jaguar automobile. Out of this common interest the JCNA headquarters was contacted, and with the advice received, the first meeting was held in the undercroft of the Saint Joseph Cathedral. (Our first club president was a priest who drove an XK-120!) The first club roster listed ten memberships and from there our club had its roots. Since that time the club has grown and has held a concours event every year. The association with Arthritis Foundation, Central Ohio Chapter, began some 20+ years ago and has provided a great venue with the added benefit of helping to raise funds for a very worthwhile organization. Last year alone this show raised over $125,000 for the Foundation. This show now presents 2000 plus cars of all makes and models, from early 1900's to present day. Classics, street rods and customs, future classics. 20,000 or more spectators come each year to see the incredible array of cars on display. The 2 day Arthritis Classic Auto show and Cruise-In has grown to be one of the largest, all makes, shows in the Midwest.
Follow link to the Crowne Plaza to reserve your room for what promises to be a unique show experience. We highly recommend you reserve now as rooms sell out fast. You can always cancel should it be needed. Mention Jaguar Club or group code GAJ. Contact information. Alternate hotels on show site:

1953 Jaguar XK 120 FHC |

|
This coupe was recently acquired from a long-term owner and is one of the nicest examples available today. The prior owner purchased it in 1989 from a gentleman who had stored it in his garage, unused, for several years, and then it again sat covered in a garage, untouched, for another 20 years. Within the last two years this Jaguar received a comprehensive bare metal restoration by Jaguar Professionals. The engine and gear box have been rebuilt, the wire loom replaced, the instruments have been restored or refinished and the interior has been completely redone. The interior restoration included the leather seats, headliner, carpets, britework, door panels and steering wheel. It features painted wire wheels with matching Dunlop RS tires and beautiful wood work in the dash. A Heritage Certificate accompanies the car.
1967 Porsche 911S
Soft Window Targa |

A new proper interior will be custom made, fit and installed and will include leather sport seats and original wood steering wheel. The engine and transmission were completely rebuilt, rebuilt carburetor, restored radiator, gas tank, new exhaust system were fabricated and installed. All mechanical components were gone through and brought back to exact factory specifications. Service, repair, replace hydraulic system and suspension. The chassis was restored and other parts restored and refinished as needed. All electrical components restored, serviced or replaced as needed. This is be a prime example for the avid Porsche collector to add to their collection.

1969 Jaguar XKE Series II 4.2 OTS |

|
This Jaguar has always been kept in good condition maintaining its original mileage and upholstery. This wonderful vehicle has only been repainted once to its original color and has a solid and straight body. Only having two owners since new and having CA black plates, this classic is unmolested and would be a great core car to bring to show driver level or above.
1966 Jaguar XKE Series I 4.2 FHC |

|
Classic Showcase is in the process of restoring this 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I 4.2 FHC to a Show/Driver level. It is rare to find an E-type such as this with a Webasto sunroof, making it a very desirable car to the collector. Included in the restoration process the vehicle will be stripped to bare metal, placed on a rotisserie, metal finished, leaded, all body parts fitted to the car and chrome, prepared for primer, sealer, paint, base, clear, color sanded and buffed to a fabulous finish. The car has not yet been painted, so the color is open to the desire of the purchaser until September of 2010. It will receive a new windshield. All systems will be gone through and the engine will be rebuilt back to factory specifications. The transmission, clutch system, hydraulic system will be restored and the car will receive all new rubber and a complete new wire loom. All chrome will be re-plated. Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2011
March 12, 2011
Images from: Sports
Car Market
"It was one of the best shows we ever had," Warner said. "I don't think any show could have
matched this one. We have had weather like this, but to have four straight days like this was
really a blessing."
Aside from the Amelia Island Auctions, RM also organizes an annual Concours showcasing
many beautiful vehicles. It has been said that this Concours is a favorite among fans who come
from all over the country.
The best of show was deservingly awarded to Jack Nethercutt for his 1933 Rollston Duesenberg SJ
Arlington Torpedo Sedan. He claimed to be very surprised by the win and that he had never seen so many
Duesenbergs in one place.
If you have never been to Amelia Island during the Concours and Auctions in March, you should
definitely mark your calendars for next year and be sure to pack your shorts and short sleeve shirts for the
sunny Florida weather.

David Goodman Asked:
- In your opinion, do you think that the Jaguar XKE FHC will appreciate in value just as much as the Roadsters?
Fresno, CA
|
Tom Says:
David, both E-Types are appreciating in value and it is becoming harder to find one that makes a good example. The FHC has been appreciating a great deal in the last year, more so than it has in the last few years. The FHC makes a good investment but will not be worth as much as the roadster.

Bernard Stevens Asks:
Pheonix, Arizona |
Tom Says:
Bernard, 1. The body is a very expensive part of the car to restore and repair. So buy the best body, rust and accident free with no gaps and good fit. 2. The engine and drive train need to be in good working order or this could be an expensive repair. The car needs to be complete and have all of these systems in good working order.
|
|
| John Walker Asks :
South Dakota |
Tom Says:
John, It is best if you start with a bare metal body. We start with an etching primer, use a high buildable primer, then we use a good sealer, base coat and 3 coats of clear coat. If you have a company to do this you should make sure all of the products are compatible and guaranteed because the products that you use on the car could be several thousand dollars. You can buy these products from Classic Showcase.
|
| |
Steve Weber Asks:
- Will changing the original paint color and upholstery color on my XKE affect the value of the car?
Austin, Texas |
|
Tom Says:
Steve it shouldn’t effect the value of the car if you paint the car to a color that is period correct for that car.

Maintaining Your Classic for the Spring Season

- Make sure all of your car's vitals are good. Check fluids and air pressure, read instruments properly to make sure they are all operating well.
For maximum efficiency, make sure the timing of the engine and calibration of the carburetors are good.
The gasoline used in a car is important. Use a high quality gas to prevent any dieseling effect. If you have a pinging effect, the problem could be your timing or carburetion. You may need to use an octane booster if you drive a car with a performance operating engine.
Shine the car and buff it to perfection. We like the Maguire and 3M polishes, as they are user friendly. Also try the products from Griot's. Take your time when detailing your car. It can be a fun and relaxing experience.
Finally, plan for lots of car events and activities. Take your favorite companion on a day trip... oh, and take a friend too.
